STAUFF Fluid Power Kawasaki’s First Points in BSB by GR Motosport
Having struggled to reach our full potential in the first 2 rounds of the season It was a really nice bonus for Tom Neave’s stand-in rider Luke Mossey to score the first points in British Superbikes for the STAUFF Fluid Power Kawasaki Team.
Tom continues his knee injury rehabilitation and was not able to race at Donington Park so we decided to offer Luke Mossey the opportunity to join the Team for the weekend and he fitted straight in with his new crew.
The now all important Friday activities, where your performance in Free Practice 1 and 2 can lead straight into superpole was a mixed affair for the two riders – Luke pushed straight into superpole taking the last place in 12th. Storm struggled with a bike issue and was forced into Q1 where he then crashed at Redgate and the severe damage to the bike put him out of the first race too.
Race 1 – was the first race for Luke in 7 months so he was a little rusty but he settled into a race long battle for the last point just missing out at the flag but showing good potential for race 2.
Race 2 – was going to be tough for Storm, his crash and no set lap time forced him to start from the back of the grid. Both riders made good starts and after Storm pulled through the field, both riders were in a great battle together for the points but this time it was Storms whose great efforts from the back were just not quite enough and it was his turn to just miss out as Luke took 14th at the flag and the very first points of the season for the STAUFF Fluid Power Kawasaki Team – a great result in the circumstances
Race 3 – everything was set for the weekends grand finale in front of a huge sun bathed crowd at the Leicestershire circuit. Both riders were looking forward to the race when fate’s hand struck the team again and Luke pulled in after just a few laps with a defective front tyre leaving Storm to take his first points of the weekend in 15th place
Storm Stacey commented “We struggled at Donington this weekend we had some issues and I crashed in qualifying. My Team really worked hard to get be out in the first race but we just missed the window – I have to say that standing on the grid with Tom watching others go to race was the hardest thing I have had to do in a long time. It’s not where we want to be right now but in the end I got some very hard earned points. We have a break now and then my favourite track at Knockhill where we will to bounce back”
Luke Mossey said “I really enjoy working with Brent and the whole GR Motosport Team, they made me welcome and gave me a great bike. It was a privilege to score STAUFF’s first points in BSB and the potential was there for more in the last race until the tyre problem. I think I have proved that with the right package like GR gave me I am still a contender in BSB and look forward to more races this year when the opportunities are there”
Brent Gladwin – Team Owner “A tough weekend’s hard work rewarded with some points from both riders and fantastic for the STAUFF boys to get their well-deserved first BSB points. Our VIP guests experienced a fantastic weekend’s Superbike racing showing how well the team works under extremes of pressure in BSB
It was a pleasure to welcome and work with Luke and I thank him for his professionalism and the points ‘well done’.
Storm’s results are not a true reflection of our potential right now and there is so much more to come from the LKQ Euro Car Parts Team.
Tom is working incredibly hard on his rehabilitation and the knee injury which initially looked like it could cost him the season is responding remarkably well. Tom will now undergo a test day to evaluate how we look for Knockhill in 3 weeks’ time.
It has been a very tough and taxing start to the season and I would like to thank the whole Team for their hard work and for the continued support from our Partners and the BSB fans
We will see you in Scotland.
